Gwen Jorgensen US National Triathlon Champion
I’d like to give a big congratulations to my friend Gwen Jorgensen who won the US National Championship and became the first American to ever win a WTS Triathlon. The race was in San Diego, in Mission Bay, where I just was. Dang, I missed watching a thrilling finish. She ran down Emma Moffatt (AUS) in the last kilometer of the run to win the event by 4 seconds. A pretty stellar result to say the least. Congrats! Australians are beating us all the time. I hope this was one of those non-drafting events. A triathlon bike segment is pointless if you can draft in my opinion.

Sorry to disappoint you, Steve Wathks, but this was a “draft-legal,” triathlon.

Gwen is just awesome! I’m glad she has come into the sport and worked so hard on it. It was a heart-break to see her get a flat in the Olympics because I think she could have been a medal contender. Her run is just fearsome. I’ve really enjoyed following her results and story. Pretty cool that you know her, Steve!
